Time Had Wings and Flew Away

Strolling down the forest’s path, I looked around in awe at the beauty of Mother Nature.  I stopped and looked up at the clear blue skies. The clouds were so fluffy that I couldn’t help but smile. I closed my eyes as I inhale the dark rich soil of the forest. I realized that this was a place that I have gone to before. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a snap of a twig. I turned my head to the direction of the sound and found myself looking at a person. Being protected by the sun’s light, I could not figure out who that person was. The person was definitely male. There was just something about him that seemed so familiar to me. I knew he was looking at me. I could see by the way that he cocked his head to the side that he was confused too. I was about to move closer to him, when he suddenly disappeared.

“Wait!” I shouted.

I closed my eyes to think about what just happened. Was that person real? Was he just a figment of my imagination? Should I go after him? I shook my head and continued in the direction to where the boy was standing. I heard the sound of trickling water as I approached a river. The crystal clear flow of the water made me remember a scene from the past. When I was about six years old, I tried to jump over the river to get to the other side, but my legs were too short. Someone laughed at me as I fell into the river.

“Don’t laugh at me.” I heard myself say, but that only made the person laugh more.

As if I felt the coolness of the splash, I snapped back into reality with the laughter echoing in my ear.  

“I’m not going to let the happen again.” I mumbled.

With determination, I walked a couple of steps back and ran forward with all my might. I felt the muscle in my thighs and calves as I bent my knees and jumped. I made it across the water with ease. I looked around and stopped when I spotted a cup.  The cup looked like it was there for ages! It had mold growing all over it. I found a path and walked away, disgusted by the cup.

The path led me to a fence and beyond that fence was a house. The house looked abandoned yet, it made me feel a warm sensation in my body. As if I was drawn to it, I started to walk towards the house. I turned the knob and the door squeaked open. I walked over to a table with a photo album opened to a page. I was about to look at the pictures when I saw the boy from the forest. Now that I was able to see his face, I remembered everything; this forest, this house and him.

“Do you remember me?” I asked.

“It’s been several years but yes, I do remember you.” replied Jeff.

“Yes, it’s funny how fast time flies. Were you looking at the photo album?” I asked

“Yeah, I wanted to make sure that it was you I saw back in the forest.” He said as he moved towards the table.

            I turned the pages one by one as felt myself go back in time; back to the time when I first meet Jeff.
